Exalted:Jakes game

Post by Jake on Thu Aug 13, 2009 2:50 pm

here is where we will discuss your various character concepts. so...um...go.

a few notes on the characters. you will be playing solar exalts only, merits and flaws are allowed, provided you run your choices by me before hand. I also would like characters with families, and friends. this does not mean you need to spend points on allies or contacts, merely that you have a connection to the world around you.

Edit: I am changing the Familiar rules. yo may have as many familiars as you like, provided you pay experience/bonus points for them. you gain the all the benefits of having a familiar from these extras, save for the essence bonus. you only get bonus essence from the first familiar you have, no more. there may be more rules changes, but that is it for now.

that would be difficult in the north east. any ideas how to get around that. you do not want to run into an aquaman situation.

Chucks concept.

Post by Maakrabe on Mon Aug 17, 2009 11:17 pm

So, I figure my character would be a newly Exalted Twilight. He's the shaman of a small tribe of locals dwelling in the north east. His duties, other than the occasional healing of sickness/local custom enforcement, are mainly focused on tending the barrows of the tribes ancestors. Living down in the wind. Where he sings to them. Songs of battle, wine, witches and women! Errr...you get the idea. Once I figure on the individual stats, I'll edit this post to include them.

All in one neat and handy package!

so does your tribe worsjip the dead? like an ancestor cult. or is it merely reverance, without any expected returns from the ghosts. also were you a shaman before your exaltation, or did you get apointed shaman by the tribe after? is there an angry ex-shaman, who feels slighted by your sudden rise to promise? is there a rival tribe? are you nomadic or agrarian? thanks for the info!!! Very Happy

sure as longas you are not a shape shifter, but just a man wolf. I don't want to encroach on Lunar territory as I want them to still be unique and strange.

The tribe is an ancestor worship culture. I wouldn't say they recieve any tangible benefits from their worship. But being able to speak with the ancestors allows them to gain insight into the world around them. Now seeing as they are a fairly primitive culture, this insight is mostly as to how best curry the favour of the local gods and spirits. When and where the hunting will be good, that sort of thing. I don't want it to be to overbearing to the overall game, but I figure having a connection to the collective knowlege of his peoples ancestors should offer a few perks.

Their shamanic tradition works on a three man system. Only three shaman at a time. This works for them because they are a very small tribe. Small enough to usually escape notice of any outsider that travels through the region, numbering in at most, 30 members. The "boss" shaman is an elder of the tribe, with decades of experience. Then is his direct apprentice, usually a young adult in his mid twenties. And then you have the youngest member, a child or teenager who is trained in all but the highest lore by the Second. Their rank is determined by age and experience, and all tribesmen who are to be shaman are marked as such by the ancestors at the moment of birth.

Now I exalted shortly after my 18th birthday. The tribes current "boss" shaman broke protocol by taking me as his direct apprentice, and placing his current apprentice in the position I was in. So yes, there is a rival in the tribe who is extremely vexed with me due to my Exaltation. But he will not speak out directly against the word of the elder, because the ancestors made their will known that I was to be the shaman of the tribe, as is my birthright as a Solar. A pretty trivial thing all in all, but considering this is all my character knows of the world, it seems fitting. After all, an Exaltation is a dramatic event, and the ancestors made it well known to all the tribe that I was very very special, even if the bright flows of golden essense weren't enough of a clue. Very Happy

Other tribes are in the area, but the socity is an agrarian one, so they mainly trade goods to one another. The most you would see in the way of warfare between the different peoples are when the young men make cattle raids on the other tribes as a test of manhood and sport. If they get away with it, they are cheered and celebrated. But if they are caught, they are usually beaten and sent home with bruised bodies, and even more bruised egos. Not much more than that, though I imagine there are bad apples in any basket.

Okay, so these seem like some pretty good ideas for you to take and run with. Hope they help Jake! Let me know if you want more, and change what you feel like. But this is the basic structure I came up with for my character and his backgrounds and motivations. I think it could be a good springboard for his traveling with non-tribesmen and leaving his home and duties.

so then you are going to probably have necromancy instead of/along with sorcery. also this will effect the game as you hold the dead in reverence, so we could do an ally who is a ghost of your ancestor or some such. are we could give you a connection to a death lord...your call.

so you were made a shaman after you exalted? or were you the younger shaman candidate before your exaltation? I think it would be more interesting if you were not a shaman candidate prior to exaltation, then when you exalted you were forced into it by the ranking shaman. then you could have two rivals with spirit powers...just a thought. also the elder of your rivals, the one who's place you took could then make a deal with a death lord to gain the power to destroy you...just a thought as well. let me know what you think.

I have only one final question, why are you out traveling with the rest of the solars, you are so embroiled within your tribe and it's politics that you have no real reason to leave. if I may make a suggestion, maybe you were banished. the old shaman gave you the ranking spot and the younger shaman, in a jealous fit gave over his name to a death lord who gave him abyssal exaltation. you returned to your camp one day to find the elder shaman dead and the younger in full control of the tribe, with an army of ghosts backing him up. you had to flee for your life, and that is why you are with the party. of course this is what occurs to me just reading through your background, and it is what I would do were I playing it. I am not playing it though, you are, so maybe you were sent on a quest into the world to fully understand the spirits and peoples in it, to better serve your tribe, or maybe you got lost and need to find your way back, or whatever. all I need is a good solid reason to be with the rest of the party. all in all I like what you have here though. thanks!

you are Haltan, and seek to end the war with those uncivilized backward mud dwellers? Razz OK, so what outcome, aside from peace, are you seeking? do you want an end to the conflict? a joining of the peoples? a nuetral zone between your peoples? trade agreements? what are you looking for? also what drove you to seek this peace? something very big must have happened, did you exalt because of this significant event(whatever it was)? also do you pan on having familiars? I should probably point out a rules change, I allow multiple familiars, but you can only gain the extra essence form the first familiar you pick. it's a minor rules change I know, but I have always felt the familiar rules are a bit silly anyway. I like what you have so far, I would like to know more.
