Steam punky?

Post by Namelessjoe on Sat Jun 13, 2009 12:15 am

So..... i have a cunning plan..... steam punk.... ya i know its been done but you could doit with magic as being a well of souls idea were the magic comes from some devine sorce that can clog and it does and the pc;s can cleann it up.... but the more tech they use the harder it is.... this explaines why fantisy settings dont progress ever for thousands of years they will loose there magic but welll get it back

I am not sure i fully understand the post. so there is a "source" of magic, that gets clogged up. and every once in a while it needs to be cleaned out by, in this case, the player characters. this allows progress. so the game would be about stagnant societies and sciences that advance very rapidly for short periods of time and then stagnate again for years and years. am I understanding correctly? sounds cool. will there be an actual adventure to open the paths of magic again? so that the players will always be on the cutting edge? they could start their own magical empires and then they could play characters in that empire years and years later after the world has started to stagnate. all the amazing things that they did with the original characters would be there but they would have to deal with the fact that nothing has advanced since then.

or a side thought maybe there are only a few people born per generation that can make innovations. everyone can use magic, but very few can change it or make it better. just a thought though.

yes the PC's could clean it but the technology would make it harder to work magic kindof like the balance in arcanum(sp?)

i didnt think so much as to weather the progress pulsed or what iit was just a 2nd facet to the setting to explaine why high fantisy settings had such low tech levles and thousands of years of history at the same level although i supose without education there could be alot of stagnation from a tech level... look at the dark ages vs the various learning times befor and or after like rennasancees and such... altho a side note it would be neat to be a curious heros in a world of repressioin maybe at a tech levle of eather dark or industral revolution time frame or high tech like warhammer 40k were tech has be simplified to ritul and relegious mojo..... then to learn stuff and gainpower that way ok.... this turned into a random thought untill my next random though
